For a short month, February certainly has delivered its share of excitement, both good and bad.
Once again, I am very grateful I’m writing these things down. Life is whipping by pretty quickly every day, and I hadn’t remembered a few of these:
February 1st: had a rare chance to tour the new Mormon temple in town with a coworker and his family.
February 12th: This time last year I was having stress nosebleeds as we worked feverishly to launch a new, zillion-dollar application. We succeeded so well we’re working on it some more, only this time with less fever.
February 22nd: I bought myself a Fitbit Flex with my Christmas money, and it’s been taunting me with its goal-oriented behavior ever since. On the 22nd, I started a string of 10,000-step days. I actually got up this morning and plowed in a couple thousand before breakfast. My world doesn’t make sense anymore.
February 23rd: Got to spend time with two of the Interrupted kids as I journeyed to Tucson.
February 27th: Walked Elmer with the youngest Interrupted. It doesn’t sound like much, but it is.
February 28th: Kindnesses from friends and coworkers made the day survivable.
You may look at this list and marvel: how on earth do you decide? Well, young Padawan, here’s how we decide these things:
1. Read through each entry for the month and jot down anything that seems particularly memorable.
2. Review the list and pick the top grouping. That’s not too hard. A predictable grouping will stick out from the crowd of ‘the besst thing about today was that I didn’t walk out of the john with my skirt tucked up in my Spanx.’ Which is a laudable accomplishment but really is the bare minimum I’d expect out of a day.
3. Review the top grouping. If there’s a tie, the winner goes to people helping your day be the Besst, as opposed to something you did yourself. If you still have a tie, winner goes to the one you will remember most fondly in future years.
4. If there’s still a tie, you had a great month.
February never made it to #4, but here we go:
Runner up: Shelley and Nancy save the day on the 28th. The sense of relief I got from that will live on forever.
Winner: Walking the dog on the 27th. I can’t explain it, but I know a Besst when I see one.
