Time and wi-fi got away from me this week. As we covered earlier, I was busy conferring with my peers about All Things Software in a lovely resort in Orlando. I just flew in yesterday, and boy are my arms tired…
May 18th: I actually went to the fitness center at the resort, wearing the sneakers and workout clothes I had packed in anticipation of this very event, and treadmilled for two miles. I also forced myself to look past my natural shyness and forced myself to go to a reception later that evening where I didn’t know a soul. Until I found someone (actually, several someones) I did know and chatted with them.
May 19th: This is where I betray my nerdiest side: A highlight for today was attending a session on Prior Period Adjustments. I am not making this up. I also had the most fabulous dinner with a vendor. The best part wasn’t the halibut. No, it was the part where I got to pick the brain of a talented software developer and hear about all the back story behind All Things Software and those prior period adjustments.
Pardon me: my pocket protector is showing.
May 20th: I managed to get through almost half of my presentation before I realized that the attendees would be submitting evaluations of this and I could pretty much phone it in that they’d be dissing the ditzy presenter. I apparently moved past my self-consciousness enough to generate sentient thoughts, as a few attendees told me later that they really appreciated my input.
I also got to attend a preview of a statistical analysis tool that I cannot wait to see in production.
Once again with the pocket protector.
May 21st: Fabulous lunch with the new people I met at the conference, despite my crippling shyness. Flew home, and made yet another friend on the way. Lots of Elmer kisses.
May 22nd: Bonus Besst. Back to the office. Traffic is light in anticipation of the upcoming holiday weekend.
