I really dislike Windows 8, which is not the point of this post but it certainly is part of the reason for it.

I had every intention of putting up the Besst of Friday (March 7th edition) on Saturday morning, as is my wont, but I wound up embroiled in what turned out to be one of the Bessts of Saturday (March 8th edition).

By the time Saturday had died down with two viable Bessts embedded in it, my computer had decided to do this weird flashing/cmd.exe/DOS dialog box behavior and I had to start all kinds of scans on it.

So here we are. Haven’t seen a weird flashing box this morning (keep your fingers crossed; I’ll knock on wood) and it’s time to report:

Besst of March 7th: One of the Besst things about Friday was that it was not the rest of the week, which was an utter armpit. It helped Friday that systems that were once broken were repaired; strange, disturbing proclamations were translated into comforting language; testing revealed that calculations were working correctly. Dad, Interrupted also knew exactly what kind of pacifier to shove at me: a new phone!!! Son, Interrupted turned me on to The Guild. How on earth have I missed this? It’s hilarious. They actually made Wil Wheaton look…desirable. I didn’t know that was possible.

Besst of March 8th: we have two candidates for Saturday…

– Got to help out with Boy Scout Troop 379’s annual Amazing Race, which is a team-based trek around Tempe seeking out clues and solving puzzles. I spent the morning at the Ken McDonald Golf Course dishing out clues to seven teams of Scouts.

– Pot luck at Judy’s. I love these guys. It’s a long drive, but so worth it. This month we had The Green theme…all the food had to be green. I brought an asparagus tart.

What is the Besst project?

And why is it called Besst?
