We have two contenders for the Besst of Friday.

1. I work with the nicest people in the world. Seriously. I used to say that about The Last Company I Worked For, and I really meant it: with very little exception, they were a kind, understanding, smart group of people.

And then two years ago our biggest competitor snarfed up The Last Company I Worked For, and I was fortunate enough to be retained in the merger. I was sad, though, because how could anyone in The Company I Work For Now be as wonderful as the great folks at The Last Company I Worked For?

I never should have worried.

Yesterday was a busy, busy, busy day for me, as the capstone of a very busy and stress-filled week. I needed to rely on the cooperation of many managers in The Company I Work For Now, and to a person they were kind, understanding, and smart.

More than once, when I hung up the phone, I was moved to say, “I really love working with these people.”

How often does anyone get to say that?

2. When I got home from work I discovered that the boys had taken down the Christmas tree and stored it and all its attendant decorations away.

How often does anyone get to say that?

On the one hand, the gift of wonderful coworkers is a Besst I enjoyed all day. On the other hand, the gift of not having to put away the Christmas decorations is a gift I’m going to enjoy all weekend. (And maybe next weekend, too, because I’m not sure I would have had the energy to do it now.)

So here I sit, on the horns of a welcome dilemma: trying to decide which wonderful thing was more wonderful.

And the fact that I have such a choice is, hands down, The Besst for January 10th.
