Twenty-five years ago today, I got a very important phone call. I was sitting at my desk at work and trying very hard to stay awake, for a reason that would become very clear when the phone rang:

It was my doctor’s office, telling me I was pregnant with my oldest child.

It’s amazing how everything can change in a moment.

It’s amazing how everything can change, and you don’t even know how big of a change it is, not even a quarter of a century later.

Twenty-five years ago, I was just sleepy (as it turned out, falling asleep at my desk would become my signature sign of pregnancy) and hoping that I would, indeed, be starting a family. I had no idea that when the nurse told me that the metaphorical rabbit had indeed died, she was really telling me that I would be starting the best job of my life.

Always glad I took the job; never want to quit it. It’s easy to see why.
