In case you’re wondering, I like to post The Besst the next morning, because you never know if the Besst thing is going to happen once you’ve settled down to go to bed.
The Besst thing that happened Friday was the tail end of A Sad Thing, which was the part where three more of our coworkers left our company as part of the merger. They’d had plenty of notice, to be sure: about nine months. There were generous retention bonuses and severance packages.
But it didn’t change the fact that we had worked together for quite a while, and while we will always still know each other, we won’t get to work together.
Friday afternoon was vintage Beautiful Phoenix: sunny and around 70 degrees. So when everything was packed up, we took a late lunch and headed out to Coldstone, sat in the sunshine, and had ice cream.
Because sometimes that’s all you can do.
