I realize that this is actually a serious story, that involves graft and corruption and greed and everything we hate in our own politics and as a proponent of safe sex and non-bribable public officials I am officially required to condemn this man’s conduct as just deplorable.
But it’s also just…amazing. I’m astounded that everyone wasn’t so glad for the guy that they didn’t just elect him prime minister on the spot. Maybe they don’t use (or need) Viagra much in India.
One thing that always startles me, though, is this: Public Official gets busted doing something horrid (sex, drugs, or Barry Manilow, usually) and claims they were entrapped. That someone purposefully dangled something horrid in front of them and that’s why they did it.
Even as we understand that it’s wrong to invite someone to commit a crime and then arrest them when they do, do the defendants understand that this defense just says they’ll roll over and commit crimes at the slightest provocation? It might get you off the legal hook, but it doesn’t say anything nice about you overall.
